The food was good enough, but two things disappointed me. First, there was about a ten minute wait for a table, despite us seeing several tables that were unoccupied. It was a Saturday night at the tail end of the high season and it appeared they were not completely full staffed. Second, and most importantly, the margaritas are only maybe five or six ounces and are $8. After a seven hour drive with two pre-schoolers, this dude wanted a BIG margarita.

Fantastic brisket tacos and mango mojitos! Ask for Benito or Hector and you will be sure to have a great experience!

The yelp checkin for a free margarita was a nice unexpected touch. The food was pretty good but nothing to rave about, it is hard to go wrong with chicken and rice covered in cheese. I liked the service and the salsa was pretty good as well. Would return if craving something other than seafood while visiting PCB.

Beware of tacos with descriptions that focus on the sauce. In retrospect, I should have known better. The fish tacos I received from La Cocina's fish tacos were swimming in the sauce, a standard white tartar, the restaurant glorifies in their menu. There was so much sauce that the tortilla on my second taco dissolved. Not that it matters much for the taste, but to me, these looked like little burritos not tacos. But hey, we pay for the presentation too right? By the way, draft beers are $3. Margs are $9-$12.

Very disappointing. Food was rubbery and cold. After declining the up sell to top shelf tequila for my margarita, I was charged for it anyway and there was absolutely not a drop of alcohol in my $12 margarita. Definitely won't be back.

Awesome salsa and great food. He wait is a bit long. I had beef tacos and cheese enchilada. It was very tasty. Someone else had the chicken enchiladas - excellent!

La Cocina is our favorite Mexican restaurant in South Walton. The food is definitely a "step above" typical Mexican cuisine. Our server, Hector, went way above our expectations of good service. He assured our every need was attended to and ensured that we had a fabulous experience!

Great bar staff and great food. I've been going to la Cocina for years and it never fails to impress. Highly recommended to visitors and locals.

This restaurant impressed me! The food is excellent and service is top notch. The place is spacious and has great decor. The drinks are expensive, but the food is a good value. Salsa is smoky and heavy on the cilantro - just how I like it. The menu features various shrimp and fish options (fish was mahi mahi on my visit), but my favorite item was the mole chicken enchilada. Amazing mole sauce! Location is in between Rosemary Beach and Alys Beach, west of Panama City Beach.

Bar has good drinks but the food lacks flavor relying on cheese to make up for it. Sauces on the enchiladas were little more than window dressing

We went to La Cocina Saturday (3.22.14) night and sat at the bar! and it's a good thing we did because had we been seated we wouldn't have met Denise! She was extremely nice and welcoming and you could tell that she took pride in the place she worked! We had the appetizer sampler that included the fried avocado - delicious! everything on that plate was yummy! we then had a combination plate of enchiladas, it was good but not worth going back for. The appetizer plate, the margaritas and hospitality shown by Denise are! See you soon!

The atmosphere was great and the service was very friendly! Our food was prepared quickly and was delicious. We will definitely stop in the next time we are down in in beautiful Seacrest Beach!

Just bad. Took 30 minutes to get a margarita. The margarita was good. Took 45 min for the meal to arrive and this is at lunch time. Food was nasty. Waste of time and money. Owner should be embarrassed.

Horribly expensive unauthentic Mexican food. The chicken in my burrito was dry and tasted like it came out of a can and the rice was hard. Plus they added 20% gratuity for my family of 6. Don't waste your time or money on this place...

I generally rate restaurants the way I rate movies. Are they good at what they are good for? La Cocina definitely is! We were here twice during a four-day stay in Rosemary Beach, and we would have returned if we'd been staying longer. We went the first time for dinner after a long day at the beach. La Cocina does NOT accept reservations, so we just arrived at 5 p.m. when they opened. We were famished from the sun and sand and waves, and I was pretty thirsty, so I went for the frozen house specialty margarita, the La CoRita, which is a margarita with a swirl of sangria. Divine! It was perfect after the hot, sunny day, completely refreshing! I ordered guacamole to go with the chips, as I do not like salsa, and they make some of the best guacamole I have ever had! Super fresh, flavorful and light and cool. Perfect! My husband started with the tortilla soup, which practically looks like a work of art when served and then he had the beef burrito. I got a high-five from the waiter when I chose the lobster quesadilla. He said it is one of the best things that the restaurant makes, and it was really good. It had huge chunks of lobster that tasted so fresh! My husband really enjoyed his meal, as well. Instead of dessert, I just ordered another La CoRita! We came back for lunch on a rainy day. I intended to just order guacamole and chips, but I tried the quesadilla (just cheese), and it was really the perfect snack. My husband was a little overwhelmed by his nachos. There was a mountain of them! But he really enjoyed what he had. Both times the service was attentive, personable and prompt, and we enjoyed our time there. Obviously, I would return, and I would tell anyone in the area not to miss this delicious restaurant!

Never disappoints! Locals enjoying a family favorite! The crab and lobster quesadilla is amazing! As are the fish tacos and Cadillac margarita!

I had the Cocina salad with sliced zucchini, mushrooms, green & red peppers, topped with shrimp and shredded cheese and it was VERY good. I really enjoyed it. They made a strawberry margarita that was very strong. I coiuldnt' even finish it.

Great food and drinks! The only downfall was we had an over an hour wait and ended up having to eat in the bar area. The blackened fish was amazing with a spicy twist. Chips and salsa was also a favorite! Just wish we would have been seated to the timeframe they gave us in the restaurant section vs. the bar area.

One of the best on 30a. My family eats here everytime we vacation down here. Its been a while since my last review, ....still love this place although I am not happy that restaurant.com no longer offers La Cocina coupons for purchase.

We stumbled onto this restaurant and didn't know what to expect. It was delightful. The food was fresh, tasty, and healthy (gluten free). The service was especially good. Jackie, our server, was fabulous. We have bookmarked this as a favorite, so we can come next time we are in Rosemary Beach.

Bamba queso and margarita were excellent. Fish tacos and chicken quesadillas were okay but nothing to write home about. Chips were very good - thin and crispy.

We normally love this place. Ate there last night and it was great. Tonight we ordered chips and salsa to go (we are staying right across the street). We asked for 2 large orders. They gave us 2 containers do salsa not even 1/3 full. Charged us $15 for this!

The first thing I look for in a restaurant is the ambience. A+ The second thing I look for is a welcoming staff. A+ Then...the cocktails. For me, this can make or break a place. I had a passion fruit mojito. A+ There were 9 different mojito flavors to choose from and a wide variety of other very delicious and inviting other cocktails. Ah, if I only had more time..... The food was good. We had shrimp fajitas that were tasty. The veggies were definitely fresh and the rice and beans were good. My husband had the shrimp diablo and it was even better (it is spicier and had much more flavor than the shrimp in the fajitas). I would definitely recommend this place for its food, ambience, and service. The bartender was as friendly as she could be. She is a local and gave us several tips about things to do around town. I would highly recommend this to anyone.

Pretty decent Mexican restaurant. No wait for a lunch seating with a large party. Tortilla chips were nice and thin. Lunch menu was kind of limited. Service was great.

Was not worth it. we tried this place because we had an 11 hour drive and when we arrived it was late and it was right next door. first were told it would be a 30 to 45 minute wait. never had to wait anywhere for mexican. anyway we got a seat at the bar and i will say that the service was very good. however the food was not. very bland and tasteless. The bill was close to $50 with tip, pretty expensive for mexican. i would not go back here except for beer or drinks

  • Kim R.

The food was so delicious we ate here two nights in a row. They had me at the tomatillo salsa and thin tortilla chips. But then I tried the chicken mole enchiladas and fell in love. We tried the queso, beef enchilada, carnitas enchilada and the brisket taco. Cadillac margarita and sangria margaritas were very good. Service both nights was extremely attentive and friendly. We'll be back next time we're in the area!

Very disappointed after seeing the overall ratings were high. Hostess was very rude, however our waitress was very friendly and made up for the poor first impression. Cocktails were good and we enjoyed the salsa but the restaurant was not full and our food took way too long for a Tuesday night. We were not happy with the food and we tried several options off the menu, chicken was dry, fish tacos were not good and enchiladas lacked any sort of flavor. We had a party of 13 and everyone was very disappointed in this restaurant. Extremely over priced and not worth your time, ask the locals for their recommendations.

This is no fast food Mexican joint! I have never had a Hamburger in a Mexican Restaurant but oh wow!! The Queso Burger with guacamole and bacon was like nothing I have ever tasted. Fresh, spicy and just plain delicious. The Salsa was also remarkable, just the right amount of Cilantro and garlic. Next to El Tapatio in Tallahassee these are the two best Salsas I have ever had. Hector, my waiter was excellent. However, the music was just too weird... some kind of Techno-Latin ruckus! Take your time and enjoy this place and then it's siesta time!!!

I absolutly love this restaurant. Great Food, Great Servers. Try the Polo Fundido and ask for the habanero sauce. I like hot food and the first time I went there I asked for jalapenos and they just didn't do it. The owner gave me this sauce and I was hooked. I have recommended the sauce to alot of other customers and they love it too. I think this needs to be on the menu. The chips are awesome too. So thin and perfect.

Food poisoning. We went to La Cocina over Memorial Day weekend, 3 of us ordered carnitas tacos and got sick. The rest of our party were fine. No, it wasn't what we ate before of after. Great location, slow service, great margaritas, food not to our liking, not only for the food poisoning, it's just bad tex mex. If you go, stick to the bar and bring a bag of Doritos. Ps. Must say our server was super friendly. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- UPDATE George, who owns the place has been in touch with me. He has kindly asked me to amend my review (I removed all caps on the first line) and offered to refund our money. I really don't care much about a refund but that shows he cares and has tried to make things better. I have to say that the place was packed and waited a bit for a table, so probably our case was rare. Public apology for the Doritos comment, that was a bit harsh.

Lovely area. Tried a variety of items and our favorites were the tortilla soup, the fish tacos (with grilled fish) and the top shelf margaritas.

I've lived in Los Angeles and Atlanta but this mexican restaurant at the beach has the best chips and salsa I've ever tasted! The service was right on even though they were crazy busy (Hector waited on us). I got the mole enchiladas because I love mole sauce and it was really tasty. Our margaritas mixed with sangria were also perfect and refreshing. What an awesome addition to 30a - they need more places of this caliber on 30a!!!

I'm only giving La Cocina 2 stars because the service at the restaurant was good. Unfortunately, the good news stops there. I am a big fan of good Mexican food. For me, the most telling thing about how the food will be is the salsa they bring you at the beginning. So with the first bite, I was already worried about what the rest of the meal would have in store. The salsa tasted like tomato sauce with cayenne. No taste of fresh herbs or real flavor. I don't know the last time I couldn't eat chips and salsa...it is one of my favorite things to eat....even if it's mediocre. I ordered the fajitas. At least that's what the menu listed it as. I have many fajitas and they have always arrived on a steaming pan. These were on a normal plate, served room temperature. It was extrememly dry...the shrimp, steak, vegetbles...there was no sauce and I definitely wasn't going to pour their salsa on them! On top of everything, the prices were way to high...especially for what was being served. My family and I won't eat here again.

food was good, not great huge portions guac was solid service was top notch very loud, great place for families/kids GET THERE EARLY ... we were the first family in the door at 5:00, by the time we left there was a 1 hour wait

HORRIBLE service. Beans out of a can. Hard rice. Rude staff who wouldn't serve a drink at the bar. Hostess extremely snobby and rude. Good meat and chips & salsa. Queso not so much.

  • Shawn H.

Ate here on our vacation and was mildly dissapointed in the food quality. I had the Lime Tuna and was shocked when I realized the porition of food I got for $22.00, the economy is too bad these days to put such a high price on such a skimpy amount of food. Needless to say... I have had way better for the price.

I found this place while staying at the Villages of South Walton and have been back for every trip to 30A since then. The service is fantastic - Hector has served us twice and his response to what ever we ask for is "whatever you want." The drinks are strong and yummy, be sure to try all of their exotic mojitos. I was shocked at how good the cherry was. Their taco plate and the seafood chimichanga are amazing. Don't miss the brisket and the carnitas in the tacos. Oh - and the guacamole is some of the best I ever had. Love love love this place and you will too!

Try the house margaritas with a splash of sangria! Delicious! The fajitas were so-so - they don't come out sizzling, just steak and rice, nothing special. Fish tacos were pretty good. Chips and salsa were good. Service was terrific, ask for Matthew. The restaurant just opened. Atmosphere and decor was amazingly beautiful.

This review is based on our group's visit on 7/23/09. Nice atmosphere, seating could be improved (our group of 5 was crammed at table for 4), salsa could be improved, but other food was delicious. The main reason for the low review was the horrendous service we received: waitress gruff from the start, slow for refills, admittedly made error on part of order, but argued with our ENTIRE group about another error. The worst part of our experience was the fact that the manager appeared to notice that we had a problem, but she didn't seem to care/avoided us.

So, I was a bit cautious to eat here based on the Yelp reviews. I had a coworker recommend this to me before a trip to Florida and there aren't too many other Mexican restaurants in the area, so my group stopped here. We arrived around 7:30 and there was only one group ahead of us. We were told the wait wouldn't be too bad (I think it was about 15-20 minutes). However, when we were seated at our table, it took awhile before anyone came over at all. It was kind of odd. Anyway, server finally came over, ordered someone else to bring us chips and salsa (which were REALLY good!), and took our drink orders. We asked her about the cost of a pitcher and she had to go check on it for us. We ultimately decided to each get an individual drink. I had the pineapple margarita and while it was good, I think it was overpriced. I had the mole enchiladas and the barbacoa enchiladas. PHENOMENAL! Especially the mole. I'd like to just get a plate of those. With that said, the beans and rice were nothing special. In fact, I didn't like the beans at all. Reminded me of the Ranch brand of beans my mom forced on me as a child...I've never disliked refried beans at a Mexican restaurant, so this was weird. My friend ordered the sour cream chicken enchiladas and I don't know which I liked better between our two orders. I'll just make sure to get those next time! Overall, the entrees were good, drinks were tasty but pricey, and service was off, but I wouldn't skip a meal here for any of those reasons.

We went to La Cocina against our better judgement. We're from Texas and it is hard to find Mexican food that compares to what we're used to eating at home. Our server was nice. We had two servers helping to keep our drinks filled and that was appreciated. We ordered the "cheese dip" (we call it queso) and the guacamole. While the guac was good, it was nothing more than the prepackaged stuff you buy at the store. Then they doctored it up with some cilantro. Definitely not worth the $8 they charge for it. The cheese dip was okay too. My kids all ate it. I got a ground beef taco and sour cream chicken enchilada. The ground beef taco looked like the same beef I get in a Taco Bell taco and the tortilla was just a store bought tortilla. The enchilada sour cream sauce was pretty good. My husband got fish tacos and the fish was very tender and juicy. My oldest got nachos and forgot that they make them differently in Florida so he didn't like them. The other kids enjoyed their kids meals. Our ticket was $108 for six people, $130 after tip. RIDICULOUSLY OVER PRICED for food we could have made at home. We would not go back here unless it were the last place on earth and our lives depended on it.

I live in Seacrest and have eaten here a few times because it's convenient and the food is ok. The service has been hit or miss. This summer service has gotten much worse. I just left there (for the last time) picking up a to-go order. The person serving me handed me my ticket and said "gratuity is expected". I asked her to clarify because I could not believe she said this. She confirmed it. I remember when servers earned gratuity through good service. There was no service here other than taking my money, handing me a bag of food and saying "gratuity is expected". We have heard that this is the same company the operates George's. Hard to believe the same group operates one of our favorite and one of our least favorite local restaurants.

Had such a fun dinner here last night. Hector was an awesome waiter! He was hilarious and so fun! My tacos were delicious and the guacamole was great too. Fire & Ice cocktail was the best, spicy and sweet and just hit the spot! We stopped on a whim and we all left very satisfied :) might stop by again before we leave 30A

Tex Mex that is a step above. I had a combo plate with an excellent veggie enchilada that contained a decent amount of vegetables and a beef brisket type crispy taco that had a very rich feel. And the Yucca fries that were shared among the table were extra delicious and something different for me. They were almost creamy on the inside with a great crust. Toasty warm chips and a fresh salsa that was thick and infused with cumin was brought to the table in a timely way. We will definitely go back.

This is your typical Mexican restaurant - the food is good and during the summer it is packed. What stood out was the excellent service from our waiter, Hector. He was very personable and attentive. We had a friend show up after we ordered our food. He noticed and immediately came to our table to take her order and was able to rush it in so her food came out at the same time as ours. He joked that he had to steal somebody else's order but I am sure he just worked with the kitchen to make it happen. The place and our waiter was very busy but we never felt rushed and our waiter was always calm and attentive. I hope he is there when we go back next year- he made our night! Thank You Hector!

  • Maggie T.

You can always tell how your meal at a Mexican restaurant is going to be based on the chips and salsa. Luckily, the salsa that was plunked down upon arrival was thick and laced with cilantro and chipotle. For my entrée, I ordered the seafood quesadilla. Wow! So delicious and such a huge portion that I took home half and ate it for lunch the next day. We sat at the bar and the service was ok. Bartender was a bit grumpy despite not seeming overly busy. He was attentive at least so not too much of a black mark. Everyone always talks about Hector so I guess I will have to look for him when I return.

I love this restaurant! My husband and I had eaten here before so we brought friends this time. La Cocina is more laid back and relaxed than *some* of the places nearby. We had a wonderful server and great food. I love the salsa and the margaritas here! I'll continue to stop in when I'm in town!

Free chips and salsa. And the lobster quesadillas were enough for two! Look out though, the sides all cost extra.

Hector was amazing as always. We come here every year we are in town. This year we came twice :-) pastry light chips, mouthwatering fish tacos and lobster quesadillas and of course the pitchers of house margaritas are our favorites. Get here before they open at 5!

Food was your typical American mexican food. Should've gone to taco bell. The amount of money I paid I should've had a V8

  • Mark M.

I am convinced the only reason this place makes money is that it is in a good vacation location, so people only come once a year and they don't rely on repeat customers. The food is less than mediocre, it is very expensive, and the one thing I was looking forward to -the margaritas- were horrible. Not tasty and I'm not even sure they put an ounce of liquor in there. Will never go again, there are much better spots in the area!!

We really enjoyed our meal here. The service was great. We never ran out of drink before getting a refill. The chips and salsa were good. The basket of chips was huge and the salsa was tasty. Our food was good. I had the fish tacos, and they were full of flavor. My husband enjoyed his taco and enchilada plate. The kids both liked their chicken burritos, as well. Is it the best Mexican food I've ever had? No, it isn't. However, it was better than average in my opinion.

  • Tim F.

I would love to give a great review on something, anything. Great margaritas 5 stars! Chicken fajitas, oh my god. How does a Mexican restaurant mess up fajitas. Bland tasteless mush, no sizzling platter, luke warm chicken, tortillas like sticky dough, toppings out of a can. Waiter brought check with 3 glasses of wine, a beer, and two premium drinks that we didn't order. Just have chips and drinks and inspect your bill.

From the perspective of an adolescent, I had a low-grade service. After sitting at our table for four for 10-15 minutes, we were finally served. The waiter came and talked to us as we had recently graduated 2nd grade, all the while half not focusing because he had to go to another table full of adults. When we ordered our drinks, another waiter came out and was kind to us (being younger like 24) or at least respectful like we were surrounded by a few elders. After getting our drinks, our waiter did not return for a another 5-10 minutes. Again, the waiter talked to us like "so what are we having for dinner tonight?" Leaning down low to the table almost putting his hands on his knees. After the waiter had left it was fine but we had ordered a cheese dip and the waiter either forgot to place the order or forgot to deliver because we got it close to 3 minutes before our meal arrived. Therefore, we did not get to "appetize" before our meal with the appetizer. My chicken quesadilla had hardly any chicken. Nothing against the chef though because usually the food is superb. Not to mention the waiter did not remember our drinks in the right order and forgot one of them. Usually the restaurant is good, but provides less respect to people younger than 20 because of tip issues. I did tip $2.26 which was about 16%; giving him a fair tip worth more than worked.

The food is good - nice salad with grilled shrimp and a good flat iron steak, good sized portion of guacamole - but the service average at best, the restaurant is HOT (crank up the AC), there are no happy hour drink prices and there are TONS of flies. I even mentioned it to the waiter "wow, there are so many flies!" His response was, "yeah, there have been a lot of them this season". What? Figure out how to get rid of them - It's awful to swat flies when you're trying to eat!!!

We ended up here by default on our first night in town because the hostess at Acme ice house around the corner was very rude to us and told us we would have to wait outside on a cold night--even though there were dozens of empty tables and we should have been able to be seated immediately. So we kept on walking and ended up at La Cocina which clearly wAs the place to be anyway as it was packed and we had a fifteen minute wait. No matter though, there was plenty of seating while we waited and we chatted happily. We were seated within 10 minutes and were greeted by our "A-MAAA-SING" (clearly pronounced as such) server Hector. Here is a man who clearly loves people and his job. He immediately friended us with good humor, acting as though we'd met before and exclaiming things like "you're looking good" and "look how big you've gotten!" To my 18 year old daughter. He had us in stitches and we played right along. Hector brought us chips and salsa and queso right away and made some recommendations for us when we were clearly having a hard time making choices. The grilled fish tacos were delicious, as he said they would be. I wish I'd taken a picture--but something tells me we will be back this week to see Hector again. Our teenagers and their friends liked everything too. We left happy, full, and ready for fiesta!

I'd like to preface by saying that you should always be wary of any Mexican restaurant that is entirely staffed with white people. This place is no exception. I had nachos with chicken, specified guacamole on the side. Nachos came back with guacamole on the side ($5 worth) and a scoop ON the nachos. I asked for neither, got both. The salsa they send out with the chips is pretty good, though. It isn't soupy like most places have. If you dip a chip in, it comes out with salsa on it...not just wet. The sweet tea was also good...but then again, how can you mess up sweet tea?

Love the Lulu Favorite-great service! Was told an hour, but took less than 20 minutes to seat us (party of 5).

  • R. R.

Great atmosphere, good food. Nothing spectacular. The chips are fried with the chicken fingers (we were told this fact when we asked if they were gluten free for a Celiac in our party) and they kinda taste like it, which was disappointing... because there's nothing like killer chips & salsa! We'd go back, but it's you're standard Mexican fare.

Some of the best Mexican food and service anywhere! Hector was such a fun waiter. every suggestion he gave was delicious. Margaritas were amazing!! We had a party of nine and Hector was great with kids and adults alike. Highly recommend the food, atmosphere and sitting in hectors section!

Went back to La Cocina last night because we were back in town and I just want to say again how great the food, drinks, and service is!! Restaurant was on a small wait but once again we found immediate seating at the bar and same wonderful staff and bartenders were there to take care of our thirst and hunger. The girl behind the bar is always a pleasure. Tried a new pineapple jalapeno margaritas, heaven! Thanks again for another great experience. Wish I had La Cocina back home!

Spacey waiter, microwave shrimp. Skinny margarita was tasty- and only 112 calories. The hub's fish tacos had very little fish. All in all, kind of yucky . Go fast food and do better.

I do enjoy tex-mex when I'm in the right mood, but I was expecting a bit more from La Cocina. It's the sort of place that a lot of the dishes will come out looking identical, whether you've ordered a chicken enchilada or steak fajitas. Also, this is the only place I've ever had warm salsa in my life, and I'm definitely not a fan. Warm the chips instead! Our service was excellent, and I liked the decor. I would return, but wouldn't make a special trip to eat here again. Nothing was bad, I just felt that it wasn't great either.

Hector! Hector! Hector! I feel this is necessary after reading these reviews! Wow! We got lucky with having Hector serve us and everyone is right. He gives incredible service. However, the help from the other staff members truly gives this place GREAT customer service. Chips were replaced before we could even get to the bottom of the basket, and frequent check ups by everyone made for a great experience! The food lives up to the service my friends! Fish tacos, an order of the jalapeño slaw, and corn on the cob! Delicioso! That was enough to split between two of us. Their drinks are all "on point"! You can't go wrong here, unless you expect and want a cheap, indistinguishable Mexican food plate. (The one that all blends together by tomato sauce and cheese. When your looking at your enchilada combo plate and looks exactly like the burrito plate your friend ordered.) Yea, La Cocina is not that place.

Great find on a hot day along 30-A between Rosemary and Alys beach. A great place to cool off in a lovely, air conditioned space. We ordered a custom made margarita and tasty grilled fish tacos. Our server, Hector, was super friendly and professional. We enjoyed their salsa and queso, both made in-house, with crispy chips. The tacos were delicious, featuring generous chunks of moist, grilled mackerel. The beans on the side had a lovely smokey flavor. We will return. And we will ask for Hector when we do.

Little pricey for Mexican, but it's the beach! The food was excellent as was the service. Highly recommend the fajitas and the queso. Servings are huge, so don't be afraid to share!

So disappointed in our experience here! First, when we walked in, the hostess didn't greet us, rather raised her eyebrows waiting for us to tell her how many there were of us. As we walked to our table with our mute hostess, one of our children slipped on a spilled drink on the floor and fell to the ground crying. No staff at the restaurant even acknowledged it. Then, we sat down and a bus boy dropped off chips and salsa without saying a word and we then we waited for a good 10 min before finally getting up and asking if we have a server. The food was very mediocre at best. Nothing special at all. The chips and salsa were the only things we would categorize as "good". The chicken served on both the salad and fajita was chewy and bland. When my husband used the restroom, there was a big puddle on the floor that he almost slipped on. Even on the way out, our daughter slipped again on another wet spot on the floor. Overall - it felt dirty and not well managed which is a shame given the cute decor and great location. It's a place we call "one and done".

Great Mexican food! When we stay at The Village, we usually come here for lunch at least once during our week stay since dinner time looks way too crowded. Food is great though and affordable compared to the other restaurants in the area. Definitely a good place to come to if you have kids or looking to watch how much you spend. Oh and the service is great too!

This restaurant was our first stop when arriving in Rosemary Beach/Seacrest for the weekend, and it was very disappointing. The margaritas and chips and salsa were decent (why I gave it 2 stars), but the food left a lot to be desired. I got the taco/enchilada combo with a chicken mole enchilada and carnitas soft taco. The mole sauce was way too sweet, the carnitas taco was very basic and not very flavorful. I found the Refried beans very bland, and the Mexican rice was dry. My boyfriend got the fish tacos, which had a good size serving of fish but was simply fish plus some mixed greens in a tortilla. If anything, I'd come back for drinks and chips and salsa only.

We were here last summer and had an amazing meal with the best service. This year was completely different. Horrible service - waited 30 minutes for drinks and then food order taken. Management must have changed. Manager was rude and ignorant. We will not be returning next year.

Stopped in on a whim. Courteous staff, seated quickly. Our server was Hector and he rules! He gave us a good outline of the menu and we ended up getting fajitas and fish tacos. The food was above par and the service was way above par.

  • A H.

The servers were friendly, the atmosphere was good for a couple but there were several large parties having fun. We had salsa, cheese dip & fajitas. The salsa was nice with lots of smoke, the fajitas had a good flavor & the server brought us another plate & tortillas (without asking) since we were sharing it. Two beers, cheese dip & fajitas $37.09; not bad.

We have visited La Cocina many times. We feel that the food is just par. The margaritas are fantastic but over priced. I think they need to improve their food.

If you're staying at The Village it's super convenient. We ate in the bar area and the entire wait staff was awesome. Food was ok, massive portions. The bartender was mixing some mean drinks too! Nothing stood out as amazing, let's call it pretty good. Definitely a place of convenience, let's taco no more about it!

Mediocre food, cafeteria feel inside, restaurant appears to be focused on tourist turn over versus memorable experience. On a recent trip to 30a my family and I were excited to try La Cocina, as we are fans of Mexican food and thought it would be an excellent pairing with the beach environment. Sadly, La Cocina was unable to deliver on even the most basic premises of Mexican food. Stale chips, watery guacamole, the kids wouldn't even eat "Chef Ben's" Mac and Cheese. Probably the worst offender we had was the $18 Chile Relleno, listed as a favorite on the menu. What came out of the kitchen was a limp poblano pepper about the size of a deck of cards, stuffed with a sugary beef concoction that looked like cat food, or at best Taco Bell. It was topped off with a sweet creme fraiche, and strawberries?? Completely unappetizing. The rice and beans had been pre-plated for at least an hour, and adding to the stingy portion size was a iridescent sheen covering everything, implying a long stay under a heat lamp. This restaurant is owned by the same group who owns George's and Seagrove Village Market - so we were expecting at least a decent experience. Sadly, it seems their business formula is no longer focused on memorable, beach dining experiences - but grabbing a quick buck from the tourists who come once. That night our family all experienced gastro intestinal distress, while we can't definitively say it was our dinner, it was the last thing we all ate... The drinks were the only saving grace- the Jalepeno margarita was very tasty. How hard is it to mess up traditional tex-mex style Mexican? La Cocina would of been better off sticking to the basics, rather than trying to reinvent already good dishes. Whipped Creme on a Chile Relleno anyone?

Fish tacos were amazing! Husband, baby and I enjoyed a great meal with the best server; Hector was friendly, on top of his game and so accommodating! Food is great, service (ask for Hector) was wonderful. Defiantly worth the drive to Seacrest.

Got here just in time before the long wait. This restaurant is huge. Had really good service. Started with the standard chips and salsa. Salsa was okay, but could use more kick. Tried the guacamole. That was really good and super fresh. For dinner, we split the basic chicken tacos served with refried beans and dirty rice. They were massive and looked more like burritos. They were pretty tasty, and I was stuffed, because I'm a chip hog and ate way too much. I don't think they would have been as good if I hadn't had the guacamole to put on it. My gf said the margaritas were amazing, but I didn't get a drink here. Suffice it to say, I would come back if ever in a Mexican mood,

Wonderful food, great service. Staff was very friendly and inviting. Great spot for children. Bike rack out front for parking. Restaurant closes between lunch and dinner.

  • Eric L.

Average Mexican. I got brisket enchiladas with rice and beans. The sides were really an afterthought, which is a bummer for me - I like a nice plate of retried beans and good rice to finish off my meal. The enchiladas were pretty good, but the price they have to charge because of the area was no bueno. Would I go back? I guess, if some friends were really in the mood for Mexican.

So I would say this ranks up their in my book of tex mex places, and was very good value. Our waiter, Hector, who everyone seemed to recommend here, did not disappoint. Spot on service, great food and a affordable bill. Chips were great, and then the food was good to. For people thinking their getting high end tapas style Mexican, your in the wrong place. If you are in the mood for Tex Mex, then this is the place for you!

Great meal. Excellent service from Wanda. Margs kept coming. So did the chips and salsa. Must add the queso w meat. Muey Bien!! Chips were so good we were big chip piggies. So much so we could not finish our meals .

  • Gene B.

Incredibly fresh and well-done Mexican food at the beach, which is rare. The food is rich and awesomely flavorful, but not gloppy, and the service attentive with a super friendly staff. Some members of our party have serious food allergies, and they willingly accommodated us which is a huge plus. Would definitely return!

Love Seagrove Village Market...love George's. Sorry to say La Co is terrible. Had chicken and shrimp fajitas. Shrimp was nicely seasoned. Everything else was blah. Maybe being from Houston makes me biased...but, we know how to do TexMex there. Unfortunately, our beaches suck!

  • Jerry W.

The chips and salsa were fantastic, everything else was just so-so and expensive. I got the 3 barbacoa tacos, which were decent, but cost around $15,which is a little much for just "ok" tacos that fall apart as soon as you pick them up. The sides were standard refried beans and rice.. Nothing special

    (3)
  • Michelle S.

The complimentary salsa is fresh and has a bit if a kick to it. We shared the three enchiladas (short rib, carnitas and chicken) with rice and beans. Wish the rice and beans portions were a little larger. It was super busy in there the Thursday before Easter, but we managed to get a table near the bar. Great place for some low key Mexican!

    (4)
  • Tina C.

We went for an early dinner, around 6, and there was a wait. However, we were able to sit in the bar area, at a table, and were served right away. We ended up with three waiters, but all were attentive and helpful. I ate the burrito with ground beef and it was delicious. Plenty of food for one person. The chips and salsa are free and there is a nice drink menu.

We are new to the area and certainly will be back here to eat again (tonight, in fact!). Great Tex-Mex on the gulf. Regular salsa is a bit tame for my taste but our server Hector kicked it up a notch without hesitation. Rita's are...well tequila & lime, what can go wrong!? :) Good job by the owners and looking forward to many more tasty dishes here!!

  • Steve M.

Fish tacos were great. So was the guacamole. It's a big place so it works well for families. The meal was expensive though. About $70 for a family of 5 before tip, and one was a 2 year old who just ate off our plates.

Pretty basic style 'Mexican' food. Easy to get to, easy to access.. plenty of seating. Service was unnecessarily slow given that we were one of 3 tables, with 2 servers when we walked in. The food was good though.. it's just difficult to give a place like this a more than 3 star rating when it is so basic. It was nice that the chef or a chef ran the food to the table and was very nice and personable. It just all felt a bit lack-luster to me. Was the food good.. yea it was ok.. was it spectacular? No not so much. Would I go back.. maybe because I didn't see anything else like it when I was in the area.. but it's not the best Mexican food I have had. It wasn't too pricey though, for what we had anyway. 2 Ice teas, guacamole, and 3 lunch entrees was about $40. So there is that at least. Happy Eating!

Aside from the convenience of the location I didn't think this place was very good. I liked the chips (thin and crispy) and salsa (hearty fire roasted flavor). The queso was very thin and runny. My tacos al carbon were ok, but the beef was diced into little cubes. My biggest complaint was the service. We arrived at around 1:00 on a Monday afternoon. The restaurant was crowded, and looked to be winding down from a busy Spring Break lunch crowd. Although there were some larger parties waiting to be seated they were able to seat us almost immediately. We were ready to order, and our drinks, chips, and queso were served promptly. We were hungry and thirsty so we went through chips and drinks rather quickly. We waited and waited for our waitress to refill. Then we waited and we waited and we waited for our lunch to finally arrive.

Very good mexican food at very reasonable prices for the area. Dinner for my wife and I was around $25.

  • Niki W.

We came here because the wait at George's in Alys Beach was already over an hour at 5:30 p.m. We realized after we arrived that this was a sister restaurant. We called ahead and were seated promptly. We had a large group and our waitress did a good job of serving our party. All of the food was pretty good - My fish tacos were definitely better than my husband's appetizer sampler and the chips, salsa and queso were fine. The fish tacos were huge, and I ended up sharing half of my meal with my husband. As with many places down on the 30A, the prices were high for the meal compared to the Atlanta area and it isn't the most authentic, but considering we were seated quickly and were able to park easily in the parking lot, I would say it is a good bet for this area.

Excellent Mexican. Delicious for the money in comparison to another restaurant owned by the same family. (George's). Lulu's favorite and the salad with chilli lime sauce were excellent. Drinks are a bit pricey, but what you would expect on vacation. Decor was fun. Many great paintings. Wait staff is very generous with chips and salsa.

Service was excellent and the food quality was good, although just short of truly authentic. The staff was also quite mindful of my group's food preferences concerning food allergies and some people's need for strict vegetarian options. Thumbs up!

Had a great experience tonight at La Cocina... Food was delicious and the service was even better. The guac and fajitas were great as was the margarita. Our server, Jenny, was funny, knowledgable, and made the night for us. Will definitely come back

La Cocina turned out to be a real disappointment. We saved this dinner for our last night because we expected it to be so good and it was just okay. Not great but not awful either. We had a party of 10 and the service was a little slow. I recommend sitting inside because we were swarmed with flys on the side patio. They were so bad actually that we wished we had waited the 40 minutes for an indoor table. If you're needin a tex mex fix this place will do in a pinch but you won't be writing home about the food.

Amazing food and excellent service. We visited this restaurant with our children and they loved it as well. Their chips and salsa tasted delicious and wasn't too spicy for the kids to enjoy. We also had their cheese dip and guacamole and they were delicious as well. Our entrees arrived in a timely manner and tasted amazing. We also had dessert and the tres leches cake was out of this world good. My husband had the apple empanada and he loved it as well. We will definitely eat here again!

Decided to try this place on a Friday night. I lived Mexico years ago so Mexican food is always a favorite. It was busy but we did not have to wait for a table. Our waitress Claudia was terrific. Friendly, animated, and attentive. The food was less impressive. The chips and salsa were very good. The salsa had just enough zip to it and was tasty and fresh. Their "famous" lobster quesadilla was good but not great. It is a large portion. Almost enough for a meal. It is expensive but for the portion size it is reasonably priced. The tacos were not nearly as good. My friend liked the fish tacos but I was less impressed with the carnitas. The meat was good but a bit bland. The tortillas were horrid. It's like they came from a package that you can buy at Publix. Very disappointing. I should have had something else. All in all, it was ok Mexican food in a nice setting with a great wait staff. I would try it again but not in the near future. Too many other places in the area to sample first.

Ate lunch there today. Kids split the nachos and loved them. I had the lighter side plate. It was delicious. Prices are rather high. But we are at the beach. I would eat there again.

If you like it spicy, ask for a ramekin of the habanero sauce to customize your salsa. Behave the Lulu's Favorito: little bit of everything, enchiladas, perfectly light mile, a taco. Delish. Our server James was fantastically helpful and knew the menu front to back. Let him know what you want and he'll set you up!

Fantastic food and outstanding service. While we typically try to find new places to eat each trip to the area, this is one that is always a repeat. Everything we have tried has been great!

This place is absolutely unbelievable! Please ask for Hector as your server, the guy is very upbeat and takes good care of you! We discovered this place on 30A and will visit again. The fish tacos are the best i have ever tasted! If you are in a mood for some good Mexican while on your trip give this place a try!

When you're at the beach for a week, it gets especially important to find something other than grouper and shrimp from time to time. La Cocina is a great zag when you've been overfished. The lobster quesadillas are a consistent favorite and the salsa is decent. The steak is always cooked to order and the brisket tacos are a solid choice, too. It's not Frank Stitt quality here, but its a nice change of pace at the beach. The owners also own George's at Alys Beach (a must-eat while staying on 30-a) and another nice little dive in Grayton Beach.

    (4)
  • Willie S.

Not good. Seriously. This restaurant is in a fantastic location and I think the owners take it for granted. The salsa and chips were the only bright spot of the meal. The steak burrito was $15 and barely edible. Dont get the chicken enchiladas. The chicken was cold and the meal had no flavor. Again, its a shame. People come from all over the country and eat but probably just once. If this restaurant depended on just locals it would go out of business.

Let me start by saying that my favorite food in the whole wide world is beans and rice. Also, let me say that I have had some of the best beans and rice at this restaurant over the past few years. But, sadly, last night I learned that I can't order them anymore. I am a vegetarian by choice and by necessity. Oh, and I am allergic to chicken To the vegetarians, I am so sorry to say, (because I have been a HUGE fan of this restaurant since they opened) you wont find any vegetarian entrees here. Although they have menus with a "V" marked for vegetarians, unfortunately the new kitchen manager uses bacon in the beans and chicken-stock in the rice. Beans and rice are the STAPLES to vegetarians who are looking for a quick easy protein replacement. To the regular carne eaters they are just a side-dish, but to vegetarians, they are mui importante! I ate there last night and luckily my wonderful server asked me if I were a "real" vegetarian when I ordered the entree marked with a "V" on the menu. I was confused because I have never been asked that before, but he told me about the bacon and chicken. Like I said, chicken is the only food that I have allergic reactions to, and I was not equipped with benedryl on my date. I hate to think of the people who get dosed with meat because they order food marked "vegetarian" when it really isn't. The server was super apologetic and suggested replacing the rice with a slaw. Even though the slaw was good, it's just not worth going to eat Mexican (my FAVORITE) without being able to order a true vegetarian entree with beans and rice.

I am surprised by the negative reviews. We visited last week during our annual vacation. The food was very good. The restaurant was spotless. The waiter we had was outstanding: entertaining but also very attentive. My dad is very picky and he enjoyed it so much he wanted to go back for breakfast. Unfortunately they only do a Sunday brunch.

Food was very good... Server was really friendly... No major complaints... But they really didn't "read" the table very well... We had two kids melting down... Our group standing up - SO ready to go. We were ready to go but had to ask for the check... Not exaggerating - it was a 2 hour lunch with small kids... No bueno in that department. Food was good - not kidding about that and the margarita was awesome. If you just want to hang - go for it!

We enjoyed the food and the waitress was really good to us. I'd pass on the free margarita and get a specialty drink. There's not a lot of places in this little area and there's lots of people looking to eat, so you have to appreciate this lil spot.

Praying no one else finds this place....we are regulars. I will keep my secrets on how to get seated quickly lol ;-) We eat out often and at a lot of locations from PCB to 30A. The staff now us when we walk in, always a "Hi guys" from them. Great service, great atmosphere & great food & consistency!! Some days it is busy & you may wait a little longer, but it is well worth it & the staff take pride in what they do! A++++++++++++++++ on food & service. LOVE YOU ALL, YOU ROCK!

In my attempt to introduce a new friend to my favorite local restaurants...we stopped in for Lunch after a recent trip to PCB. So happy we did as it was our lucky day. Not only were the fish tacos as tasty as always. The peach sangria that was recommended is my new fav AND lucky us.... We had Hector for our server!! Hector is one of the best on the coast. Our service was impeccable....he was not only knowledgeable but gracious as always. What an unexpected treat!! Thanks Ann & George for continuing to bring some of the best restaurants to 30A!!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes.
